‘First the Spring’ A history of the Shire of Kojonup Western Australia

Author: Merle Bignell. Published for the Kojonup Shire Council by University of Western Australia Press 1971, Republished

This well-researched history of the Kojonup District begins with a comprehensive gathering of knowledge about the Kaneang people who first lived in the region. The interaction between the original inhabitants and the new settlers are documented. This book traces the development of the town and surrounding farming district from the earliest days of the Swan River colony through to 1971. This book is considered by many as one of the best and even-handed histories of a farming district and the variety of people who made it home.
